Art for Saving Satyavan!

I want to thank the incredible p0_chip on Instagram for creating this fantastic art of Satyavan, Savitri and Suman! Is this how you envisioned the characters when reading?

I'll admit, I had very little idea of how the characters looked like when I started writing Saving Satyavan. I'll go into more detail later, but I knew for sure that I wanted Suman to look boyish. He's older than Savitri, but he's also got this youthful vibe that made me think of him as much leaner than Satyavan, who's muscular in comparison.

Satyavan himself wasn't always meant to be as buff as he is, but I realized that living in the forest would probably strengthen his physique. You could argue that Suman also grew in the forest, but Suman spent most of his days studying ancient texts and archery; think of him as a kind of Legolas type. Satyavan did a lot of intensive labor, so it felt natural for him to have a muscular physique.

Typically, those who were poorer or who lived in ashrams wore plain brown or light yellow clothing. Granted, most women didn't wear blouses, but we had to keep some modesty 😂It's also notable in Savitri's case that she has a fuller figure. Ancient Indian art depicts women as curvy, full-figured, and although many of them are slim, I preferred to envision Savitri in a fuller body-type.

So let me know, which character is your favorite?
